New Voting Technology for New York:
Urge NYC to Choose Paper Ballots with Optical Scanners
To comply with the Help America Vote Act, New York must soon replace lever voting machines with either electronic computerized voting machines, (Direct Recording Electronic or DRE touchscreen) or Paper Ballots with Optical Scanners (PBOS), accompanied by accessible ballot-marking machines for voters with disabilities or minority languages.
Brooklyn For Peace urges support for Paper Ballots with Optical Scanners. See our Resolution.
NY City Council Resolution 131 asks NYC to purchase PBOS, and the State Board of Elections to certify them will be coming up for a hearing in the Governmental Operations Committee on April 28.
NY City Council Resolution 228 urges public hearings and public testing before selecting the new voting machines.
Call or write your City Councilperson; ask him or her to support and co-sponsor this resolution. To find out who your City Councilperson is, and get contact information, visit They Represent You maintained by The League of Women Voters of the City of New York.
