Trick or Treat for UNICEF 2014

It’s Trick or Treat for UNICEF season! This year will mark the 64th Anniversary of Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF.

Join Brooklyn For Peace and walk in The Park Slope Halloween Parade Friday, October 31, 2o14. The Halloween Parade route will start at 11th Street and 7th Avenue and end at the Old Stone House right off 5th Avenue in Brooklyn.

We need volunteers!

  • The Saturday before Halloween, 10/25, we need volunteers to help hand out Unicef collecting boxes at the Grand Army NYC Greenmarket and then on Sunday, 10/26, at the Farmers Market at 5th Ave. & 3rd St.
  • On Halloween, Friday, 10/31, we need volunteers to staff collection boxes along the parade route on Halloween Monday October 31 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

For more than 60 years, Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF has served as the Original Kids Helping Kids campaign. In 1950, children across America were inspired to collect coins for UNICEF to aid children abroad enduring the after-effects of World War II. It was not just a charity effort—it was a call to end the needless suffering of their more vulnerable peers around the globe. Since then, for generations of Americans, Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF has been a powerful way to make a difference in the lives of the world’s children

Please join us again to support this important event. I hope we can count on you to help.

Anyone who would like to have UNICEF boxes delivered anywhere in the city, you can call 1-800-FOR-KIDS. Usually they need 2 days notice to deliver.

“Trick-or-Treat” for UNICEF 2013:
Your help needed to help kids around the world!

Please join the UNICEF Committee of Brooklyn For Peace in this year’s “Trick-or-Treat- for- UNICEF” activities.
Trick-or-Treat-for-UNICEF” is part of the Kids Helping Kids movement of the United States Fund for UNICEF.
The funds raised help provide kids in need with health care, clean water, nutrition, education, emergency relief, and more.

This year a particular focus is on children impacted by Syria’s civil war. More than 4 million Syrian children are at risk as violence continues.

In 2012 we collected $1902.34 for UNICEF in spite of the cancellation of the Park Slope Halloween Parade because of Super Storm Sandy. To grow our campaign this year we need more volunteers! Here’s when (and where) you can pitch in:

Saturday October 12, 9 am to 2 pm: Ms. Kimberly Maier, Executive Director of the Old Stone House in Park Slope has invited us to have a table for handing out Trick-or-Treat-for- UNICEF collection boxes to families at their festival . Can you help to staff that table? (3rd St between 3rd and 4th Avenue)

Saturday, Oct. 26th:,  9 am to 2 pm: We will be distributing boxes to families at the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket.  If we can get more people to pitch in then we could also cover the Prospect Park entrance as well as the Central  Library.

Sunday October 27, 9 am to 2 pm:  We will be handing out collection boxes to families at the 5th Ave Farmers’ Market at 5th Ave & 3rd St.

Thursday October 31: Park Slope Halloween Parade!  We will need to staff three collecting stations along the parade route.  Diane Allison with her UNICEF puppet will be at one of the stations, entertaining the children.  Would you like to join her in putting  on a show for the adorable children in costumes who are turning in the money that they collected?!!!!

PLEASE SIGN UP for any of these activities by e-mail to unicef@brooklynpeace.org
If you can do only part of a shift, that’s okay.

SAT. OCT 12:  Old Stone House  5th Ave/3rd St: 9 am to noon or  noon to 2pm
